Visit by Swedish Ambassador to Belfast tomorrow
5 Jun 2019
Belfast is preparing for a visit from Swedish Ambassador Torbjörn Sohlström and Embassy staff who’ll be setting up a Swedish Pop-Up Embassy outside City Hall on the National Day of Sweden tomorrow (June 6) as part of a UK wide tour.
The Ambassador will also attend a National Day Reception at City Hall for civic and business representatives and the Swedish community in the evening, as well as, visiting Titanic Belfast and Queen’s University Belfast.
Lord Mayor, Councillor John Finucane, said: “It’s my great honour to meet with the Swedish Ambassador on his visit to the city. I’m very much looking forward to exploring opportunities for both business and cultural exchanges with his country – and I’m delighted that Belfast people will have the opportunity to sample a little bit of Sweden on the tour bus tomorrow. Our life experience can only be enhanced by knowledge of other cultures and traditions.”
Tomorrow from 12noon – 5pm, people are welcome to visit the Swedish bus #SwedenonTour to sample some "fika" (cinnamon buns, biscuits, lingonberry juice and more), take part in a "tipspromenad" (quiz), with a chance to win a piece of Sweden, and find out more about Swedish-British collaborations, Swedish culture, travel, businesses and language.
