Lord Mayor, Councillor John Finucane, opened 'Dreamnight' at Belfast Zoo recently, joining over 250 families at the special charity event.
Dreamnight is celebrated in zoos around the world and has been a great success in Belfast Zoo for the last 15 years. The event is attended by visitors and their families from the Cancer Fund for Children, Northern Ireland Children’s Hospice and the Royal Victoria Hospital for Sick Children. The event is organised in partnership with the Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI).
The Lord Mayor officially opened the event on Friday 7 June - also getting involved in some of the ‘zooper’ activities during the evening.
“It was an honour to be at Dreamnight at Belfast Zoo this year - getting to meet with some of the amazing children and families at this special event,” he said.
Zoo manager, Alyn Cairns, said: “We are always delighted to open the zoo up for these special VIP families. It’s lovely to see the families enjoying some quality time together and taking part in some of the fantastic entertainments including emergency vehicle displays, vintage vehicle displays, bouncy castles, face painting, children’s characters, balloon modelling, badge making, animal feeding times, the once in a lifetime opportunity to feed the giraffe herd and much more!
"We received enormous support from businesses across Northern Ireland with lots of kind donations and volunteers, everyone came together to create an unforgettable event, It really was a ‘dream come true’ for all the children and their families,’’ he added.
