Tenth North Belfast Lantern Parade is most Spooktacular yet
31 Oct 2019
The North Belfast Lantern Parade celebrated its tenth anniversary in style last night (Wednesday evening) with its biggest ever event.
Hundreds of people from across the community took part in the spooktacular extravaganza which made its way from Girdwood Community Hub to Alexandra Park. Participants came in costumes and with colourful lanterns in the longest-running Halloween Community Event in Belfast.
The family friendly parade, led by Ashton and delivery by New Lodge Arts, culminated in a special family event in Alexandra Park featuring death defying circus skills, live music, dance, a fireworks display, plus a very special headline performance by Little Mix Magic!
Special guest of honour Lord Mayor of Belfast, Councillor John Finucane, led the North Belfast Lantern Parade.
He said: “It was an honour to lead the event this year and was fantastic to see the high turnout of residents in north Belfast at the ever-popular North Belfast Lantern Parade. Now celebrating its tenth year, this annual event continues to grow from strength to strength and is a testament to the work being carried out by New Lodge Arts and Ashton Centre in improving all areas of life for those who live in this area.
“The Ashton Centre continues to be a cornerstone of community enrichment in north Belfast, delivering everything from training and employment to family support services and cultural activities. Well done to all involved in organising another memorable two-days of Halloween workshops, activities and events at Alexandra Park.”
