Belfast’s historic St George’s Market enjoyed a record breaking year for visitor numbers in 2016.
More than one million people visited the Market between 1 January and 31 December last year. Almost 20,000 people visited the Market each weekend, meaning that each of its trading days enjoyed an average of more than 6,500 shoppers.
According to the figures for the year, the Market’s busiest month was September, with more than 97,000 visitors, followed by December and then July. The Market’s busiest single weekend was that of 8-10 December, when almost 25,000 people passed through its doors.
The figures were also boosted by the two hugely successful and award-winning Twilight Market events in May and November, which between them attracted almost 46,500 visitors.
