Community celebrates greenway ahead of official opening

Connswater Community Greenway is celebrating its official opening with ten days of free fun events encouraging the local community and visitors to enjoy its many environmental and health attractions.
Walks, runs, a teddy bear picnic, story-telling, crafts and music are among the activities which begin tomorrow (Friday, 8 September) with a stakeholders forum hosted at Eastside Visitors Centre.
The emphasis is on fun and encouraging active involvement by locals and visitors and encompasses all areas of the greenway including, Victoria and Orangefield Parks, and nearby amenities such as Avoniel Leisure Centre and Holywood Arches Library.
The celebration highlights the attractions and the benefits the Connswater Community Greenway is providing for the whole of Belfast now the £40 million 10 year project has been completed.
C.S. Lewis Square – created specifically for the Connswater Community Greenway – and which since its creation has seen a series of spectacular and fun events will be to the fore again in celebrations.
It hosts the ‘Piece Together’ event on Thursday, 14 September – the creation of a giant jigsaw bringing together everyone involved in the Connswater Community Greenway – Belfast City Council, the Big Lottery Fund, Eastside Partnership, the Departments of Communities and Infrastructure, and the local community.
