Christmas Lights Switch On – Traffic Advice

15 Nov 2017
Motorists are being advised to expect disruption, including parking restrictions, in the city centre in the build up to, and during, the annual Christmas Lights Switch On ceremony at the City Hall on Saturday evening.

From 11pm on Friday (17 November), all parking on Donegall Place and Upper Arthur Street will be suspended. The inner lane on Donegall Square North will be closed between Donegall Square West and Donegall Square East.

The taxi rank on Donegall Square North will be relocated to Donegall Square East from 6am on Saturday (18 November).

Donegall Place, Donegall Square West, Donegall Square North (from Wellington Place) and Chichester Street will be closed to vehicular traffic from 3pm on Saturday. Pedestrian access to Donegall Place and Donegall Square North will be suspended from 5.30pm, with only ticket holders permitted into this area from 6pm onwards.

Full details of all closures, and alternative arrangements for Translink and Belfast Public Hire taxi services, can be found at www.belfastcity.gov.uk/christmaslights.

The Christmas Lights Switch On will see the Lord Mayor of Belfast, Councillor Nuala McAllister, joined by children’s television favourites Bing And Flop and The Twirlywoos, as well as Pete Snodden and the Cool FM team, Derek, Jen and Milkshake Monkey from ‘Milkshake Live’, the choir of Cavehill Primary School – and, of course, Santa Claus himself!

The event starts at 6pm and will last around 90 minutes. All tickets have been allocated.
