Lord Mayor gives civic welcome to Boston Friendship Four teams

Lord Mayor of Belfast, Councillor Nuala McAllister welcomed guests from the competing colleges of this year’s NI Connections Friendship Four Ice Hockey tournament to a civic dinner in City Hall yesterday afternoon (Wednesday 22 November).

 

Teams from Clarkson University, RPI (Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute), Providence College, The University of Maine will take to the ice at the SSE arena on Friday and Saturday to compete for the coveted Belpot cup. The tournament is now in its third year and was secured as a working outcome of Belfast’s Sister City relationship with Boston.

 

Joining Councillor McAllister in the Lord Mayor’s Parlour at a special reception before the dinner were Chair of the Odyssey Trust, Eric Porter, Boston Hockey Commissioners' Steve Hagwell and Joe Bertanga and CEO of NI Connections, Andrew Cowan.

 

Thousands of school children from across the city will fill the arena for the first game between Clarkson University and RPI (Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute) tomorrow afternoon.
