Lord Mayor shows support for business sector at ‘Powered By Talent’ summit
11 Jun 2018
The new Lord Mayor of Belfast, Councillor Deirdre Hargey, is showing her support for Northern Ireland’s growing business sector. Championing the local talent pool of professionals across the province, the Lord Mayor is offering her seal of approval by officially opening the ‘Powered By Talent’ summit on 14 June.
‘Powered By Talent’, NI’s largest talent and engagement summit, will take place at Belfast Waterfront. Its aim is to bring together businesses from the professional services sector to highlight best practice in the attraction, development and retention of a company’s main asset, its people.
With less than a week to the first-of-its-kind event, the summit will be one of the Lord Mayor’s first official speaking engagements since taking on the mantle.
Speaking ahead of the event, the Lord Mayor said:
“Belfast City Council is proud to support the inaugural ‘Powered By Talent’ summit. Our long-term vision in the Belfast Agenda is for a city re-imagined and resurgent, a confident and successful city energising a dynamic and prosperous region. Nurturing talent is essential to making this happen as it will ensure that our own indigenous businesses thrive, while helping to cement Belfast’s reputation as a destination of choice for foreign direct investors. I hope that ‘Powered By Talent ‘will shape the thinking of our local business leaders around attracting, developing and retaining talented people.”
The Lord Mayor will welcome businesses of all sizes from across NI, opening the summit to a wealth of high-calibre key-note speakers and panellists. Speakers will offer personal insights on the most effective people practices currently adopted by the world’s best companies, and also expert local entrepreneurs exploring key trends in talent management and retention.
Justin Rush, founding member of ‘Powered By Talent’, commented:
“It is a great privilege to have Lord Mayor, Councillor Deirdre Hargey, advocate the rich wealth of talent we have across the business sector in NI, by officially welcoming attendees to the summit. It is important for Belfast to recognise the talent we possess within our city and for businesses to be equipped with the tools to retain this talent.”
Along with key-note speakers and panellist insights, the event will provide an opportunity to network, allowing for the enhancing of relationships between key local business people and leaders driving economic development in NI.
The Powered By Talent summit is developed by Abacus Professional Recruitment, with lead sponsor support from EY and supported by A&L Goodbody, Belfast City Council, Pearson and Legal Island.
