Castle Street traders to host family-friendly fair
21 Aug 2018
The end of summer will be celebrated in style with a street party atmosphere in the city centre on Thursday 30 August, as Castle Street hosts an evening fair from 7pm-9pm.
Local traders will spill out into the streets, highlighting and celebrating the wealth of independent retailers and the variety of goods and services on offer in the area.
As well as live music, arts and crafts, and street performers, there will be a range of food stalls offering a selection of delicious dishes.
Lord Mayor of Belfast Councillor Deirdre Hargey said: “This is shaping up to be a great family-friendly event, and I’m delighted that Council is supporting the Castle Street traders and working in partnership with Folktown, Cathedral Quarter Trust and PLACE to help shine a light on this part of the city centre.
“The Castle Street area is in the middle of a huge transformation so this will be a fantastic opportunity for people to stop by and see this for themselves while enjoying a great evening out.”
Sophie Rasmussen from the Folktown Initiative added: “We’re delighted to have the support from Belfast City Council to deliver two evening fairs – one on August 30, and another in late October.
“Folktown Market, which provides an opportunity to trade for local retailers, has gone from strength to strength and has a loyal customer base, so the evening fairs are aimed at bringing even more people into the area and showcasing what this bustling part of the city centre has to offer.”
As part of Belfast City Council’s investment in the Castle Street area, new artwork has been commissioned from the Hit the North festival this autumn. Colourful Crossings will appear on the road to celebrate the area’s heritage and built environment, and it will also be one of the locations for the new Belfast Music hoarding initiative.
A second evening fair will be held on Friday 26 October. Visit Belfast City Council’s website for all the details www.belfastcity.gov.uk/events
