Chewing gum and cigarettes
Removing chewing gum from our streets is a long and expensive process.We use a machine called a 'gum buster' to remove the gum but you can help by placing your gum in a bin or using one of our free gum pouches, or wrap-its, until you can find a bin.
Cigarette butts are the most common item of litter in Belfast. A recent survey found that there is smoking-related litter on 75 per cent of our streets.
You can be fined £50 for dropping litter.
This short video shows how we remove chewing gum from the streets and reinforces our message that there is only one good place for used gum - in the bin.
Pocket ashtrays, gum pouches and wrap-its
Our free pocket ashtrays allow you to dispose of your cigarette if there is no bin nearby. They can hold up to five cigarette butts.Our free gum pouches are reusable, pocket-sized wallets which hold your used gum until you can find a bin.
Wrap-its are unique cardboard packs which contain ten recycled paper sheets to wrap your gum in.
