Litter fines
Our litter team enforces the anti-litter law and issues litter fines. We also give advice to businesses about waste disposal and to the public about littering and dumping.Fixed penalty littering fines
If you are caught littering in the street we can issue a fixed penalty fine of £50. If you pay this on-the-spot fine we will not prosecute you for the offence.Payment of the fine
You must pay the fine within 14 days of receiving it. If you are appealing the fine do not pay it until you receive a decision from us.However, if you are not appealing the decision and do not pay the fine we might prosecute you.
How to make a payment
You can make a cash payment at our office, during office hours, at the address below, or you can post a cheque or postal order to the same address.Appeals
If you want to appeal the fixed penalty fine you need to:- write to us within two weeks of the fine being issued
- quote the fixed penalty notice reference number (located in the top right corner)
- send it to us, at the address below.
A decision will be made and if you are successful you will not be required to pay the penalty.
However, if you are unsuccessful you must pay the fine immediately.
