Design Out Crime recommendations (for Orangefield Park and Dixon Playing Fields)
The following recommendations have been made by the Design Out Crime initiative, compiled by the PSNI Crime Prevention Team, for Orangefield Park and Dixon Playing Fields. They form part of our action plan for the area:
- install a fence between the park and the path beside the garage on Grand Parade
- plant thorny hedges beside the garage wall to deter graffiti
- remove the Grand Parade entrance (beside the garage) or lock the gates permanently (this means the only entrance to the park is further along Grand Parade, away from the garage)
- position litter bins beside pathways and park entrances
- make sure any new entrances have round top railings instead of solid walls to deter graffiti
- install a youth shelter on the Grand Parade side of the park but make sure access is via a kissing gate
- make sure the children's play area is securely gated
- consider installing parking facilities for people using the bowling pavilion
- remove the plastic shelter at the back of Dunraven Park
- make sure new signs clearly state the recommended age for using play equipment
- install plants in identified areas
- cut back trees in Manor Grove
- install more litter bins
- consider a new design for park railings to deter access to the park at night
- cut back vegetation
- improve the fencing around the perimeter of Dixon Playing Fields
- remove burnt tree from land belonging to the Department of the Environment.
