Design Out Crime recommendations (for Ballysillan Park and Ballysillan Leisure Centre)
The following recommendations have been made by the Design Out Crime initiative, compiled by the PSNI Crime Prevention Team, for Ballysillan Park and Ballysillan Leisure Centre. They form part of our action plan for the area:
- erect a screen to the rear of properties on Deer Park Road to protect local residents from attacks
- erect a fence line near the bridge to prevent people gaining access to the rear of properties via the park
- plant thorny shrubs at the fences beside the allotment area
- consider realigning pathways to move them away from residential gardens
- review the use of the derelict depot
- design a drop bar for the kissing gates that can be closed over to 'trap' scramblers but still remain accessible to pedestrians
- prune trees back
- remove graffiti
- plant thorny shrubs at the leisure centre's gable walls to deter graffiti
- replace the burnt synthetic pitch with a new third generation pitch with enhanced security, linked to the leisure centre via CCTV.
