Design Out Crime recommendations (for Cave Hill Country Park and Belfast Castle estate)
The following recommendations have been made by the Design Out Crime initiative, compiled by the PSNI Crime Prevention Team, for Cave Hill Country Park and Belfast Castle estate. They form part of our action plan for the area:
- add defensive planting at the rear of properties in Innisfayle Park to deter large groups of people from gathering
- remove steps at the lighting column to deter people from using them as informal seating
- display bye-laws and other security signage at park entrance points
- replace lighting along the Belfast Castle estate avenue to make sure the park is evenly lit and to help with the existing CCTV at the park entrance
- replace CCTV cameras at Innisfayle Park with PTZ (pan, zoom, tilt) cameras which will monitor the estate grounds
- contact the Roads Service to increase street lighting at the entrance to Belfast Castle
- remove low wooden fencing at the park entrance on Upper Cavehill Road and replace with metal railings (minimum height of 1.4 to 1.5 metres) to prevent access by unauthorized motorized vehicles
- increase park ranger presence
- alleygate the pathway at the rear of houses on Upper Cavehill Road
- tarmac stones at the Upper Cavehill Road entrance to the park.
