Food waste caddies
Any household in Belfast that has a brown bin or is taking part in our food waste trial should have a food waste caddy
to collect leftover food scraps which would usually be placed in your black bin or home composter if you have one.
You get biodegradable bags (liners) along with your food waste caddy. You should line your caddy with the biodegradable bag and then put any food waste into the caddy.
When the biodegradable bag is full, tie it, remove it, and put it in either your brown bin or your large green bin (for those on the food waste trial).
If you need more biodegradable bags, tie your "more bags please" tag to your caddy or bin when you leave it out for collection. You can also call us on 028 9027 0230 or order more bags online. The bags are free.

How the food waste trial works
The food waste collection trial currently covers homes in the Lower Ormeau, Markets, Ballynafeigh, Sydenham, Donegall Road and Falls areas. We've recently extended it, together with Bryson Recycling, to a further 2,100 households in Belfast.
The Ardoyne, Little Americas and Cavehill Road areas are now included in the trial.
Everyone on the trial is provided with a green food waste bin, a smaller food waste caddy and biodegradable bags, along with instructions on how to use them. They then place any food leftovers into the caddy (or the green food waste bin when the caddy is full).
