Get involved
We want as many people as possible to get involved with biodiversity, whether you're an individual, a business, a community or church group, a school or a land manager.
Before starting a project, you should seek advice from the many organisations involved in biodiversity work.

How you can help
As an individual
- get involved with practical conservation work
-
Make a note of what you see. Records of species are needed to protect wildlife.
Send your records to the Centre for Environmental Data and Recording (CEDaR) at www.habitas.org.uk/cedar/ - consider wildlife gardening
- be a responsible pet owner
- pick up litter such as bottles, cans and plastic which can be dangerous to wildlife.
As a school or community group
- get involved in a local wildlife project or start your own
- create wildlife habitats in your local area or school grounds
- provide homes for wildlife by putting up nest or bat boxes
- take part in schemes like Eco-Schools
- organise a biodiversity event in your local park.
As an organisation
- develop an environmental policy and a management system which incorporates biodiversity
- increase staff awareness and involvement in biodiversity initiatives such as staff volunteer days
- manage and enhance the conservation value of your landholdings
- manage supply chains to reduce the impact on biodiversity
- minimise the environmental impact associated with emissions to air, land and water and the production of waste
- consider corporate sponsorship of local wildlife organisations and conservation charities.
