The Linen Quarter

The City Centre Regeneration and Investment Strategy outlines our vision to develop a world-class city centre, one that drives growth across the city and the wider region in order to generate wealth for everyone.

Within the strategy, five special action areas (SAAs) which will be given special attention were identified, including an area described as The Linen Quarter.

 

Linen Quarter: Vision and Guidance

The regeneration of this area is a key project within the city centre strategy. Linen Quarter is home to many of the city’s main business and public sector headquarters, as well a growing number of current and planned hotels. It is also adjacent to the site of the £150 million proposed expansion of Belfast Hub, so will become one of the city’s main arrival points.

Our long-term vision for Linen Quarter is described in the Linen Quarter Vision and Guidance document.

This document sets out a blueprint to improve the quality of public realm, streetscape and architecture within the area so that it matches the standards of other leading European cities. The analysis also includes a number of key proposals:

  • introduce new public spaces
  • redefine streets and promote a different street hierarchy
  • retain and build on the area’s important building stock
  • set guidance for new buildings

The Linen Quarter Vision and Guidance was prepared on our behalf by Planit Intelligent Environments, a leading landscape architect and urban design practice.
