Rates
We do not issue rates bills. They are set by Land and Property Services.Land and Property Services assess the value of your property by looking at its size and any outbuildings, such as garages. Your rates are based upon this value. If you get an extension to your house, your rates will increase.
Currently when you're carrying out any alterations to your house, we're involved from the beginning through your building control application.
Now when the building is fit for occupation, and we're carrying out our normal survey, we'll provide full survey details of changes to properties directly to Land and Property Services. This cuts out the need for Land and Property Services staff to carry out another inspection of the premises for their Rating Valuation List.
This streamlines the rates valuation process and means you're not having two different government bodies inspecting your property. As rates are valued at the time the work on the property is fit for occupation, it makes it fairer for everyone to be paying in line with the value of their property.
