Waste storage guidelines for new buildings
Planning policy and building regulations require all new homes and businesses to have adequate waste storage and access facilities.
To help architects and builders comply with this requirement, local and central government have worked together to produce the Local Government Waste Storage Guide for Northern Ireland. It provides step-by-step guidance to help make sure homes and businesses are properly designed for waste storage and access.
However, although it contains detailed advice, it's not intended to be an alternative to discussion and consultation.
It's still important to consult with our Building Control Service early in the design stage, and regularly throughout the development process of each individual project.
The guide isn't a replacement for legislation, and compliance with it doesn't automatically guarantee that your project meets all relevant legislation.
It's your responsibility, as an architect, developer or property owner, to be aware of the legislation around this area and make sure you meet prevailing legal requirements.
