Hotel Employment Academy

If you’re interested in working in the hospitality industry but lack experience and qualifications, the Hotel Employment Academy (HEA) is a very exciting opportunity.

We’ve teamed up with two of the city’s newest hotels - the Dalata Hotel Group’s Maldron Hotel Belfast City and Hastings’ Grand Central Hotel Belfast – to help them recruit nearly 200 new staff.

Roles include entry level posts in food services, as kitchen porters, concierges, waiting staff and accommodation assistants - and there are many more.

HEA is open to anyone living in the Belfast City Council area currently out of work or working less than 16 hours a week.

What’s involved?

HEA will give you practical experience in working in a hotel, as well as training in areas such as:

  • customer care
  • food safety
  • health and safety
  • manual handling. 

It will give you the skills needed for specific posts within these new hotels - and everyone who completes the two-week intensive training programme will be guaranteed a job interview.

With the Maldron due to open in March 2018 and Grand Central Hotel due to open in June 2018, training will begin in the New Year.

We’ll be running four information sessions across Belfast in November where you can drop in and find out more.

At these sessions you can meet representatives from the hotels, discuss the various jobs that are coming up, and find out more about career opportunities in the hospitality sector. 

There will also be representatives from training organisations so you can find out more about the training and the process to apply for the academies.

There is no need to register to attend.

Job insight sessions

Both employers will also be hosting job insights sessions in other hotels that they own in Belfast. These sessions will give you the opportunity to: 

  • find out more about the types of skills and job roles available in the hotels
  • try out some of the tasks in specific roles
  • meet staff currently working in these roles.
You will also be given a tour of the hotel.

How to apply for the training academy 

You will need to complete an informal interview in order to take part in the academy. Interviews will be held on 12 December 2017 at Belfast Waterfront.

To register, email or call 028 9027 0482 by 5pm on 7 December 2017. Once registered, we will contact you to confirm the time of your interview.

You are encouraged to bring a brief CV with you to the interview, but alternative arrangements can be made if you do not have one.
