Transport Employment Academy
The Transport Employment Academies are designed in partnership with transport employers from across Belfast. The two options currently open are:
- Lorry Driving Employment Academy which provides the licences needed and on successful completion leads to guaranteed interviews with haulage and transport companies with live vacancies.
- Bus Driving Employment Academy which provides a bus licence and supports residents to apply for bus driving posts within Translink, Education Authority, Belfast HSC Trust and others.
Before applying for a Transport Employment Academy, those interested are encouraged to attend one of the own Employment Academy Roadshows to gain an understanding of what the jobs entail and the terms and conditions of employment.
After applying for a place on a Transport Employment Academy, those selected for a place will take part in the programme to give them the licences, tests and other skills needed to begin a career in transport, including D Licence, HGV, LGV, PSV etc.
The programme will also provide sector specific support including:
- medical fees
- Access NI fees where required
- theory support and tests
- practical lessons
- test fees
- licencing fees
- travel and subsistence
- CPC where required
- application form support and interview skills, where appropriate.
The Transport Employment Academy is open to anyone living in the Belfast City Council area, currently out of work or working less than 16 hours a week. This includes people who are on a current European Social Funded programme.
How to apply
The current Transport Employment Academy is full, but we plan to run others in the future. Please keep an eye on this page for updates.
