The Fat Truck
Chef Peter Callan always aspired to run his own kitchen. With help from our Go for it programme, Peter was able to develop his business idea, create an in-depth business plan and pursue his dream of opening The Fat Truck.
"I’m passionate about food and wanted to bring the American street food dining experience to Northern Ireland, focussing on high quality local produce and exciting flavours."
"The council’s Go for it programme helped me develop my idea and now I’ve achieved my dream of running my own kitchen."
Diamond Beauty and Tanning
After being made redundant, sisters Helen Davis and Ann Annett decided to turn their passion for tanning and beauty into a business reality. Having trained in beauty, reflexology and massage, they contacted the Go for it programme and Diamond Beauty and Tanning opened its doors in 2015.
Helen explains, "We received some very important and invaluable advice through the Go for it programme, and we’ve been able to work at keeping our business idea on track, and move towards the future in a structured and business-like way."
Ann added, "We’re delighted with the direction that the business is moving in, and would recommend the Go for it programme to anyone looking to start up in their own business."
With the help of the Go for it programme, a talented local artist, and owner of Mantelpiece, Bronach McGuiness turned her love of drawing into a full time business.
Mantelpiece provides a wide range of special occasion cards with hand drawn images. All cards are made from 100 per cent recycled materials and envelopes are made of paper from a sustainable source.
"My business advisor was thorough in helping me develop my business plan and assisted me greatly when it came to developing my financial forecast. I would certainly recommend the programme and the support for anyone starting out in business."
