Decade of Centenaries

We have been running a Decade of Centenaries programme since 2012 and this year we are marking 1916, one of the most significant years in the decade with our special Reflections on 1916 exhibition.

The Reflections on 1916 is a programme of events and activities designed to mark important anniversaries which occur in 2016.

Key events include:

  • the Battle of the Somme;
  • the Easter Rising; and
  • the Battle of Jutland.

The programme will also recognise the Victoria Cross recipients, the role of women in 1916, the lost lives from 1916, the European context, growth of cinema and the impact of war and the rebellion on local lives.

A large exhibition on the key events from 1916 will be launched in Belfast City Hall on Monday 7 March, and will be in place until the end of August.

More information on the exhibition and a full programme of events will be available from February.
