Whiterock Community Centre
Whiterock Community Centre is a fully inclusive centre and is open to the entire community.It is available for booking by local groups and by other agencies and organisations.
The centre also works within the wider Belfast area and has been involved in university and other research programmes focusing on issues such as children and young people and poverty, transport and older people.
Opening hours
Whiterock Community Centre is open at the following times:- Monday to Friday - 9am to 10.30pm
- Saturday and Sunday by arrangement.
Activities
We offer a range of classes and activities for all the community.These include:
- Education Project
Aimed at primary school children, this project lends help and support to children doing their homework.
It also offers a wide range of activities and outings and a fresh fruit snack is provided.
The project is managed and run by our community centre staff and volunteers.

- 12-16 Project
Suitable for young people aged 12 to 16, this project offers a wide range of club activities, outings and residentials.
There are also smaller groups looking at key issues such as car crime, drugs and alcohol awareness, bullying and poverty and social exclusion.
Other activities include the Kids Fit Club, community relations work and basketball.
The project is managed and run by our community centre staff and volunteers.

- Girl’s Group
Run in partnership with the West Belfast Area Project and Ballymurphy Women’s Group, this
session includes information and discussion groups on a wide range of issues. It is
supported by our centre staff.

- Disco
For primary school children.
This project is supported and run by centre staff and volunteers.

- After-school play group
A series of recreational activities for primary school children.
- Youth Intervention Project
Meetings are held in Whiterock Community Centre, which is also available for related programmes.

- Senior Citizens' Club
Includes lunch, bingo, outings and other activities and ideal for all senior citizens living in the Upper Springfield
area. The club is managed and run by centre staff, together with the older people themselves.

- Young adults with learning needs
This community day centre project is managed and staffed by the North and West Belfast Trust.
It is supported by centre staff.
- Black Mountain Club
Suitable for disabled children and adults. Includes club activities and outings.
- Karate
For children aged four and above.
- Irish dancing
For children and young people to competition level.
- Hip-Hop dancing (Urban Funk)
Award-winning dance troupe for children and young people.
- Traditional band practice
- Music classes
Instruction is available in guitar, keyboards, drums and reading music.

Seasonal schemes
We also offer a range of seasonal activities at various times throughout the year.These include:
- inclusive summer, Halloween and Christmas schemes, managed by centre staff, for children aged five to 11 and 12 to 16
- an annual two-day health event in partnership with local agencies and groups
- an annual carers' event for carers and those being cared for
- a job fair
- a six-week Expert Patient Programme run and managed by the North and West Belfast Trust and supported by centre staff.
