What is community planning?
Community planning describes a process in which councils, other public sector organisations, businesses and voluntary and community groups work together to plan and deliver local services which can make a difference to people's lives.The Northern Ireland Executive has previously indicated that Belfast City Council and other local councils in Northern Ireland will become responsible for community planning.
The extent of our new duties are still to be confirmed. In May 2010, the Belfast Community Planning Consortium - led by the council - was awarded a contract with the BIG Lottery Fund to deliver one of three community planning pilot projects in Northern Ireland.
