Safer Belfast plan

Cover of Safer Belfast plan Belfast Community Safety Partnership, which is led by Belfast City Council, has launched the new Safer Belfast Plan for 2011-12.

The aim of the plan is to help create safer, shared and confident communities by working in partnership to address crime, fear of crime and antisocial behaviour.

In developing this plan we listened to what the public said in the Belfast City Council public consultation survey, as well as community groups and organisations on the Community Safety Partnership.

The plan outlines how we will tackle four key areas which you have told us are your main concerns. These are:
You can download the plan in full here.

Tackling antisocial behaviour

We'll tackle antisocial behaviour on a localised basis, working directly with communities, as well as our partner agencies in the Belfast Community Safety Partnership.

Key projects include our Community Safety Small Grants Scheme, erecting alley-gates, youth outreach work and providing community safety wardens in local communities.

Alcohol and substance misuse

Most of our work in this area is delivered through the Get Home Safe partnership. Key areas include working with partner agencies to reduce on-street and underage drinking, building on our successful licensed premises scheme and conducting a drug-use study.

Hate crime

Hate crime is when people abuse or attack others because of sectarianism, race, disability, faith or sexual orientation.

We're working with a range of partners to tackle this problem. Our work includes identifying ways of preventing tensions rising, supporting events, organising the annual Unite Against Hate convention and supporting the Good Relations agenda.

Fear of crime

This section explores specific projects we are working on, such as our re-deployable CCTV, neighbourhood watch and developing crime prevention messages.
