Buying goods or services on credit - what is the law?
When you buy goods or a service on credit you have rights under the Consumer Credit Act 1974.Make sure you shop around for credit until you find the best deal for you.
Make sure you have read and understand the terms of a credit agreement before you sign it.
If there's something you don't understand ask for advice before you sign anything.
Make sure all the details are filled in before you sign. Do not sign a blank agreement.
Always get a copy of what you have signed and keep this safe.
Paying by credit card
If you pay by credit card for goods and services over £100, but less than £30,000, you have extra protection. This is because your credit card issuer can be equally liable if something goes wrong.
Some debit cards also give you added protection but this is not required by law. Different debit cards offer different levels of protection.
