Buying services - what is the law?
When you buy a service you have rights under The Supply of Goods and Services Act 1982.When you pay for a service, for example, from a mechanic, hairdresser, dry cleaner or builder, the law states that it must be carried out:
- with reasonable care and skill. This means that the work should be carried out properly and to a satisfactory standard.
- within a reasonable period of time
- for a reasonable price (if nothing has been agreed in advance).
