Dispersal options
We offer a wide range of choices for the disposal of cremated remains.
Families can also choose whether or not they would like to be present during dispersal.
Options for dispersal include:
- scattering in the Garden of Remembrance
- burial in the Garden of Remembrance
- burial under a memorial tree
- burial or scattering in our woodland copse
- burial in a traditional grave
- collection and private dispersal by family
- burial in our columbarium.
Scattering in the Garden of Remembrance
Cremated remains are placed in a scattering urn by our crematorium staff and scattered over a part of the lawn in the Garden of Remembrance.Burial in the Garden of Remembrance
Cremated remains are placed in a specially designed container.A small hole is dug in the Garden of Remembrance and the remains are carefully poured into the hole.
The soil is returned to the hole and the sod laid on top.
Unfortunately, we cannot reserve particular spots in the garden, but our staff will try to bury or scatter remains close to a previous location, where possible.
Please note that individual memorials and flowers are not permitted in the Garden of Remembrance.
Burial under a memorial tree
Cremated remains can also be buried at the base of a memorial tree.A plaque is also provided.
Memorial trees are specific to the families who purchase them and there is no limit to the number of cremated remains that can be buried under a tree.
Please note that we have strict guidelines about what items be placed at trees.
Burial or scattering in our woodland copse
Our woodland copse is group of silver birch trees which are maintained in natural surroundings. No weedkillers or herbicides are used to control weeds in this area and the copse is planted with snowdrops, bluebells, wood anemones, eranthis and miniature daffodils.
Cremated remains can be scattered or buried in the copse.
Alongside this area are large granite stones on which the name of the deceased person and their date of death can be engraved.
Please note that cut flowers and vases are not permitted in the woodland copse.
Burial in a traditional grave
Graves are available for the burial of cremated remains in Roselawn Cemetery, which adjoins the Crematorium.Families can also bury cremated remains in their own family graves elsewhere, enabling them to erect a headstone for the deceased person.
Collection and private dispersal by family
Cremated remains can be collected by families and taken away for private disposal. If remains are scattered in other places, prior permission from the landowner must be sought and any local rules or regulations must be followed.
Columbarium
A columbarium is a wall unit containing a series of niches in which cremated remains can be placed for a set period of time (ten years). The scheme is currently being considered for development within the Garden of Remembrance.
It is hoped that each niche will be covered with a marble tablet, on which the name of the deceased can be inscribed.
When the lease period is over, families will have the option of renewing their lease or removing their cremated remains for disposal elsewhere.
