Commissioning of a life-size statue to commemorate George Best
The family of George Best with the George Best Memorial Trust wish to commission a statue for Belfast City Centre which will commemorate the soccer legend's life. The commission is funded by public subscription and the budget is therefore not yet confirmed.
Artists are now invited to express their interest in this project to create a life-size likeness, high quality bronze, traditional type statue. Artists should do this by responding to the stage one brief of a two stage commissioning process which includes submission of CV and examples of work with a short letter of interest.
The commission is open to sculptors who were born in, or are resident in, the UK or Ireland and can provide evidence of previous experience of working with this medium and to this scale.
A selection panel will shortlist artists who will engage with the Trust and create a maquette to present to a panel at the beginning of April 2007. Up to £500 will be payable to shortlisted artists for this work.
