Culture

Belfast is a city with a rich heritage, offering a host of vibrant cultural and artistic experiences.

We recognise that culture makes a very valuable contribution to the life of our city and are working hard to place culture and arts firmly on the urban regeneration agenda for Belfast.

Culture creates a vibrancy that enriches the lives of our citizens by encouraging ever growing numbers of tourists to come here (currently more than 6.4m visitors, spending in excess of £285 million every year).

Culture also offers us entertaining, uplifting, thought provoking experiences; often challenging us to see ourselves, our city and our world from different perspectives. Cultural life also makes an important contribution to the economy, offering employment opportunities and developing valuable skills.

We currently support over 70 cultural organisations ranging from the internationally acclaimed Belfast Festival at Queen's, Lyric Theatre, and Ulster Orchestra through to smaller community based projects. We directly invest over £1.3 m on an annual basis in their cultural programming, skills development and audience development.
