Introduction

Our European Unit was set up in 2003.

Our key objectives are to:

participate in networks of European cities to exchange best practice and showcase Belfast
promote and raise awareness of European issues in Belfast.
maximise European funding opportunities
interpret, disseminate and contribute to EU policy.

We also have a regional role to service five other councils of the Belfast Metropolitan Area Plan through a partnership known as COMET. This includes the borough councils of Carrickfergus, Castlereagh, North Down and Newtownabbey, and Lisburn City Council.

Projects and news

Urban sports park
Belfast’s first ever urban sports park received £370,000 funding from the European Union’s Programme for Peace and Reconciliation.

Opportunity Europe
The sixth annual Opportunity Europe fair and exhibition show will take place on 20 - 21 October 2009. The event helps people find out about working, studying, volunteering and travelling in Europe.
