The Lord Mayor’s Day

Join Belfast’s Lord Mayor, Deirdre Hargey, as she hosts a free family-fun day to celebrate both her year in office and our amazing city.

The Lord Mayor’s theme for the year is ‘A Belfast for All’ and she is delighted to invite everyone to enjoy a fun-filled day at City Hall packed with lots of activities, including:

  • multi-cultural arts and crafts workshops from India, Japan and Mexico with ArtsEkta
  • funky carnival-themed arts and crafts with Young at Art
  • spectacular street theatre performances
  • live performances from the ArtsEkta Chinese Lion Dancers, Streetwise Samba Band, Belfast Ukulele Jam and Kids Together Belfast
  • the exciting world of virtual reality where you'll create amazing animations on the Wheelworks Art Cart
  • sensory play discovery areas with Mini Explorers – celebrate festivals and cultures from around the world with bubbles, fun and sensory lights
  • drumming workshops with The Gathering Drum
  • carnival games stalls
  • face painting
  • henna tattoos
  • fun games and activities for older people with the Age-Friendly Belfast team
  • Belfast Zoo small animal display
  • traditional African womenswear and royal costumes on display
  • Lord Mayor’s charities - Pretty in Pink, Community Search Rescue, Organ Donation.

All activities will run from 12 noon to 5pm, unless otherwise stated.

Culture Babies / Babaithe Cultúir

Times: 12.30pm, 2pm and 3.30pm

Join Young at Art for a special edition of Babaithe Cultúir / Culture Babies. Children can get messy and creative in a safe, fun and welcoming Irish Language environment through visual arts, rhythm, and rhyme.

Sessions last for one hour and are first come first served.

Women's History bus tours

Times: 2pm and 4pm

Please note these tours are now fully booked.

This bus tour will take in the sights of the city through a new lens, focusing on the women of the city. As well as the women who made their mark – reformers like Mary Ann McCracken, Suffragettes and entertainers like Ruby Murray – this tour will trace the lives of ordinary Belfast women who have found themselves airbrushed from history.

Tours last for one hour. 

Walking tours of Donegall Square - Belfast past and present

Times: 1pm and 3pm

Home to some of Belfast's most important institutions, the old and the new rub shoulders in Donegall Square through which thousands of people pass every day. Find out how Donegall Square became the new centre of the city, view its changing face over the years and hear the stories behind its patchwork of styles.

Tours last approximately 40 minutes and leave from the Age-Friendly Belfast marquee in Belfast City Hall on a first come first served basis.

Queues for some activities may be closed earlier than the stated times.

This event is an outdoor event, so we recommend that you pack the appropriate clothing to suit all weathers.

Disability access

For disabled access to the event site, entry is via the four front entrance gates to City Hall grounds. 

Both lawns will be accessible via ramps.

City Hall building is accessible to disabled users and visitors. Facilities include ramps at front and rear entrances, automatic doors and induction loop system.

Stewards and security will be onsite to assist with this

Accessible Toilet Provision

There is a dedicated Changing Places facility in City Hall which is open daily between 9am-10pm.

Disabled car parking  There is no dedicated car parking for the event. Please visit for further information on nearby disabled parking in and around the city.  Signage will be in place at the car park.

Spaces will be allocated on a first come first served basis.
