Wealth and Woe – Belfast City Cemetery living history tour
Date: 23 Nov 2019
Venue: Belfast City Cemetery
Join us for a wander through one of Belfast's most historical settings. Meet famous faces from the past and hear some of the fascinating stories of Belfast's hidden history.
Belfast City Cemetery is one of the true hidden gems of Belfast’s historical landscape. This wonderfully ornate Victorian cemetery is the final resting place of some of Belfast most notable figures and boasts some fascinating features such as the Victorian Fountain, the Jewish Cemetery, the Central Steps and an underground wall built to separate catholic and protestant graves in the 1800s.
We’ve teamed up with award winning theatre company C21, to create an incredible new living history experience at the cemetery.
Visitors will be escorted on a guided tour through the cemetery where they will encounter a host of colourful characters from the past including Sir Edward Harland, Margaret Byers and many more who will share their stories and reveal some of the hidden history of the city and its people.
The tour lasts 90 minutes and is suitable for visitors of all ages, and is fully accessible. This event is part of the Belfast City Cemetery regeneration project which is funded by ourselves and The National Lottery Heritage Fund.
Tickets are £10 for adults and £8 for concession tickets, available from the Visit Belfast website.
