Belfast's St Patrick's celebrations

Date: 16 Mar 2014
Time: Parade begins at 12 noon; concert 1pm
Venue: Belfast City Hall and Custom House Square

On Sunday 16 March Belfast will come alive with a colourful carnival atmosphere for all the family to enjoy!

Carnival Parade

The celebrations will start with a spectacular high-energy carnival parade, themed St Patrick – to the future. Come along to see St Patrick re-imagined as a time-travelling adventurer on a colourful journey to the future of Belfast. There’ll be eye-catching floats, performers, music and support from the local community, as people of all ages visit from far and wide to celebrate St Patrick in Belfast. The carnival leaves from Belfast City Hall at 12 noon.

For more information on how to get involved in the parade, visit Beat Carnival’s website.

Free concert at Custom House Square

The parade will finish at Custom House Square, where there will be a free outdoor concert from 1pm to approximately 3pm. Entry will be on a first-come, first-served basis. Gates will open at 12 noon and under 16s must be accompanied by an adult.

The line-up includes:

  • Shayne Ward, the Manchester-born 2005 winner of the UK X Factor
  • Emerald Armada, whose brand of Irish folk will really get the crowd going
  • Sontas, a ten-piece group of musicians, dancers and singers from counties Donegal, Derry and Tyrone who bring influences from their Irish and Scottish backgrounds.

The concert will also feature performances from the Tir na n’Og Irish Dancers and the South Asian Dance Academy.

Citybeat’s breakfast presenters, Stephen Clements and Sara Neill, are hosting the event. And, once again, we’re working with the Sober Saint Patrick’s Day organisation, to help promote responsible St Patrick's Day celebrations for both Belfast residents and visitors.

Belfast city centre is open for business on Sunday 16 March from 1pm to 6pm and on St Patrick’s Day, Monday 17 March, from 9am to 6pm.

Traffic and Transport

Road closures along the Parade route will be in effect from approximately 11.30am to 1.30pm around the city centre. There will be diversions in place.

Bus diversions will also be operational at this time (see bus diversions document below).

Public hire taxis normally located at Donegall Square North will be relocated to Donegall Square East from 11.30am to 1pm.
