Belfast Cycling Grand Prix
Date: Friday 18 JuneTime: 7pm
Venue: Belfast city centre
On Friday 18 June, Belfast city centre will host the Belfast Cycling Grand Prix, in partnership with the council, and supported by Travelwise Northern Ireland as part of the Two Wheels: Two Weeks programme.
The event is based on the successful UK tour series which brings fast-paced, competitive cycling into the heart of cities.
During the race, five British and Irish teams will do battle over a 1km course for the chance to be crowned the best team.
The professional team race will take place over 40 laps of a one kilometre circuit, taking in Donegall Square South, May Street, Seymour Street and Chichester Street, starting at the front of City Hall at 7.30pm and lasting around 75 minutes.
This will be preceded by a Commuter Challenge Relay, with relay teams from local businesses and organisations racing against each other, at 7pm.
The roads around the route will close to through traffic at 6.45pm before the race.
Bike to Work Day
The Belfast Cycling Grand Prix coincides with Bike to Work Day, which encourages as many people as possible to use their bikes to travel to work, and the council and Travelwise will celebrate by offering a free breakfast for all participants at Belfast City Hall.Parking
