When Jonathan Swift came to Belfast in 1695, he looked at Cave Hill and saw a sleeping giant in the outline of the hill. The giant became his inspiration for Gulliver`s Travels.
You can see Cave Hill from the North Foreshore and it was decided that the open space area would be called Giant`s Park.
