Evacuation from your home
If your home is flooded you will need to move upstairs or move out. It is unlikely that you will have heat, electricity for cooking and light. If a lot of houses have been flooded then we and Belfast Health and Social Care Trust may open up emergency support centres. You should listen to local radio or ask the emergency services to find out where they are.Other agencies such as NI Housing Executive, Red Cross and Salvation Army will be at these centres and you will be able to go there for food, shelter and information. You may come and go from these centres as you wish.
If your home is severely flooded or there are other dangers the emergency services may advise you to leave and you should take their advice. Only bring ID documents and essential medications with you. You can also bring pets.
There are limited resources to accommodate and care for pets at emergency support centres. It would be preferable if they could be cared for by someone else, perhaps a relative.
If you have to leave your home in this way you can come to an emergency support centre where you should make arrangements to stay with a friend or relative.
The Housing Executive is responsible for providing services to people who have been made homeless and they will help people who are displaced from their homes when friends and family are unable to assist.
