PEACE III conference

Collaboration was the focus of this free one-day conference which took place on 21 June 2011 in Belfast City Hall.

Hosted by William Crawley, with keynote presentations from Matthew Taylor and Nuala McKeever, the conference explored partnership working and community engagement.

The event also included a celebratory exhibition of PEACE III-funded projects, with delegates using the opportunity to meet with other organisations who work to promote community participation.

Matthew Taylor - keynote presentation

Matthew Taylor is Chief Executive of the Royal Society for the Encouragement of Arts, Manufactures and Commerce (RSA). Prior to his appointment, he was Chief Adviser on Political Strategy to the Prime Minister.

Matthew was appointed to the Labour Party in 1994 to establish Labour's rebuttal operation. He was the Director of the Institute for Public Policy Research between 1999 and 2003, Britain's leading centre left think-tank. He is also a frequent media commentator on policy and political issues, and has written for publications including The Guardian, The Observer, New Statesman and Prospect.

During his presentation, Matthew developed a number of ideas on key challenges currently facing society, particularly within the context of public sector cuts. In a wide-ranging address, he considered a number of issues and potential responses and focused on actions led by the community and voluntary sector.
