Hall and Stairs
While slips and trips on one level are the most common type of falls, falling down stairs can be very dangerous. Hallways and landings should have nice bright lighting. It is important to see where you are going, take your time, and use the hand rail on stairs.
Some hazards found in the hall and stairs are:
- I should know better than to have a curled up mat anywhere and there is one as plain as day on my landing.
- And what have I got the low table placed there for, to bang into? Silly me.
- Very young children and older, frail people should be protected by a stair gate to stop them from falling down stairs. However, the gate is no use unless it is securely closed!
- The stairs should never have anything on them, like a toy car.
- There is no battery in that smoke alarm on the landing. If fire breaks out at night the alarm will not be able to alert us of the fire to help us get out fast.
