Safety in the sun
During hot weather, it is important to protect your skin from over-exposure to sunlight. Too much sun can lead to painful burning and increase your chances of skin cancer in later years.
You should also make sure children are protected, as they are particularly sensitive to sunlight.
The following tips can help reduce your risk of over-exposure:
- wear loose clothing to cover your shoulders, arms and legs and a wide-brimmed hat to shade your face
- stay in the shade, especially between 11am and 3pm
- use sun block with a minimum sun protection factor (SPF) of 15
- apply sun block before you go out in the sun and re-apply every two hours
- protect your eyes by wearing sunglasses with a UV rating
- limit the amount of alcohol you drink to prevent dehydration.
