Belfast Health Development Unit
Emotional health and wellbeing survey
We are working with our partners the Public Health Agency and the Belfast Health and Social Care Trust to develop a plan to improve the emotional health and wellbeing of all those in Belfast.
We recently surveyed all our residents to get an accurate picture of how they felt about their emotional health and wellbeing. Around 3,000 residents responded to this survey, and we will use this feedback to develop our plan. The survey is now closed but we will update this page regularly with information on our progress in developing an emotional health and wellbeing strategy for Belfast.
Belfast Health Development Unit
The Belfast Health Development Unit aims to improve the health and wellbeing of people in Belfast. It is made up of staff from Belfast City Council, the Public Health Agency and the Belfast Health and Social Services Trust who work together to use their resources more effectively.
Aims and key targets
The Belfast Health Development Unit aims to reduce the ‘health gap’ which exists in Belfast. This is the difference between the life expectancy of people living in more affluent areas, compared with those living in less well-off areas.By working together, the unit will look at the social, economic and environmental factors that have led to the health gap. Examples include:
- employment opportunities
- levels of education
- housing standards
- the early development of children
- how involved people feel in community life
- safe, clean and attractive neighbourhoods
- access to leisure and recreation
- lifestyle, for example, alcohol intake, smoking and diet.
- health outcomes for children and young people
- health outcomes for those living in disadvantaged areas
- health and wellbeing of older people
- opportunities for physical activity
- health and wellbeing of black and ethnic minority groups
- joined-up policy development across agencies.
