Despite the global downturn in hotel occupancy rates and room prices, the hotel industry in Belfast remains relatively buoyant. We've experienced rising hotel occupancy levels as Belfast continues to record the highest room occupancy rates within Northern Ireland at 82%.According to the Deloitte Global Ranking index on hotel occupancy produced in March 2008, Belfast was ranked 15th, the second highest-ranking UK city behind London.
There was an increase of around 6,300 beds in 2009, a 30% increase on the existing stock. This means that Belfast is now capable of hosting major events and conferences and is testament to its growing reputation as a business tourism destination.
