The investment opportunity

The city’s skyline has changed significantly in the last few years thanks to massive investment and regeneration.

Investment

Political stability has allowed our economy to flourish. Investors recognise the appeal of our strategic location and our excellent infrastructure, with major road, rail, sea and air links to the rest of the UK, the Republic of Ireland and mainland Europe.

Our two world class universities have helped the city develop a highly skilled workforce, with competitive wages and low operational costs, relative to other European cities of comparable size.

The city offers an exciting programme of events and festivals and boasts a range of high quality public realm and open space.

The visit of the Tall Ships in August 2009 attracted 800,000 people to the city and placed Belfast firmly on the map.

City regeneration

In 2009 over £500 million worth of developments were unveiled, including a number of landmark buildings that opened their doors to the public again following extensive refurbishments.

There are also a number of huge regeneration projects planned including the £360 million Royal Exchange development in the city centre and the Port of Belfast’s £630 million expansion project.

In addition, phase one of the massive £5 billion Titanic Quarter project is now underway. Based at the former Harland and Wolff shipyard, this is Europe’s largest and most exciting waterfront development.

The opening of the £400 million Victoria Square in the heart of the city in March 2008 marked a new era in shopping for Belfast. We are now one of the top 10 cities in the UK for retail offering.
