Sports pitches and facilities

We manage and operate 128 sports pitches and playing fields in Belfast, spread across 28 sites throughout the city. We've developed a Playing Pitches Strategy to help make sure we continue to provide high-quality pitches which can be accessed by everyone.

The strategy is also part of our Investment Programme. In 2012 we set aside £14.1 million to improve facilities at ten sites across Belfast. We also received a further £1 million contribution from the GAA.

Pitches and playing fields

We have pitches and playing fields across the city.

These pitches are available to be used for all sports including rugby, soccer and gaelic games.

Next Steps

Falls Park
We expect to begin improvement works on the playing pitches in Falls Park in June and we hope to complete these works by March 2018.

Cherryville Playing Fields
Proposals to construct a new artificial turf pitch; a natural sand based turf pitch and the addition of a toilet block to the changing pavilion have been granted planning permission.  As part of the planning permission we will install additional planting at the rear of the pitches to create a buffer with the adjacent properties.  We are also investigating the possibility of including a trail around the perimeter of the site.

The start date for the works has not been set yet.

School facilities

As part of the pitches investment, a £750,000 capital enhancement programme has been awarded to six schools to improve facilities and allow for greater community use.
