Name the road

We’re asking for your naming suggestions for the new road that leads from Boucher Road to Olympia Leisure Centre.

Artist impression of the new road being constructed at Olympia Leisure Centre.

Officially opened on 21 June 2018, the new tree-lined boulevard  provides access for cars and pedestrians to the Olympia Leisure Centre’s 3G pitch, play park and multi-use games area.  The road also provides access to the National Football Stadium at Windsor Park and Linfield Football Club’s pitch at Midgley Park.

The road was constructed as part of the £21.75 million investment at Olympia – a project that sits within our £105 million Leisure Transformation Programme for the city.  The state-of-the-art leisure centre and spa opened its doors to the public in January 2017.  The outdoor enhancements, including the road, pitches and play park completed the project.

How can I take part?

In March, we ran a public call for naming suggestions which could be submitted online, by email, by post or at a number of venues in the area. These have now been collated and you can vote for your favourite.

Public vote

The shortlisted names are:

  • Boucher Boulevard
To echo road names in the local area and the tree-lined entrance way
  • Elisha Scott Boulevard
In honour of the Belfast born former Linfield, Belfast Celtic, Northern Ireland and Liverpool goalkeeper
  • Grace Bannister Way
In honour of Belfast’s first female Lord Mayor, elected to office in 1981
  • Legends Way
To reflect the number of sporting legends from the city
  • Olympia Boulevard
Linking the range of leisure facilities to adjacent streets
  • Windsor Way
To reflect the close proximity to the National Football Stadium at Windsor Park

The public vote is open from Monday 30 July until Sunday 19 August 2018.

Please note that only one vote per person or organisation will be accepted and you must live or your organisation must be based in the Belfast City Council area.

All suggestions must adhere to the stipulations as set out in the Name the Road terms and conditions (PDF - 241KB). Our Privacy Notice, also contained within the terms and conditions document, sets out how we use your personal details, collected as part of the voting process.
