Name the road
We’re asking for your naming suggestions for the new road that is being constructed at Olympia Leisure Centre.
The new road will lead from Boucher Road to Olympia Leisure Centre. It will provide access for cars and pedestrians to the new 3G pitches, play park area and multi-use games area that will officially open at Olympia in May. The road will also provide access to the National Football Stadium at Windsor Park and Linfield Football Club’s pitch at Midgley Park.
The road is being constructed as part of the £21.75 million investment at Olympia – a project that sits within our £105 million Leisure Transformation Programme for the city. The state-of-the-art leisure centre and spa opened its doors to the public in January 2017. The outdoor enhancements, including the road, pitches and play park complete the work onsite.
How can I take part?
The naming process falls into three different stages:
Stage one – a public call for name suggestions
Stage one is now closed.
Between Monday 5 March 2018 and midnight on Sunday 18 March we ran a public call for naming suggestions which could be submitted online, by email, by post or at a number of venues in the area.
Stage two - public vote - current stage
All valid suggestions submitted in stage one, which adhere to the stipulations as set out in the Name the Road terms and conditions (PDF - 241KB), are being collated by a naming panel. A shortlist will then be put to a public vote.
The public vote will run for a period of three weeks.
Voting will be available online, at a number of venues in the local area surrounding Olympia, by email and post.
Stage three – final decision
Once the public vote has closed, the result will be presented to council for ratification. Once this has taken place, the result will be made public.
