Make A Splash levels

Make A Splash is divided into five levels.

All children are assessed prior to enrolment to establish which level is suitable for them.

Sammy Shrimp (levels 1 and 2)

Sammy Shrimp logo Suitable for: For non-swimmers

Content: Includes introduction to water, developing confidence to submerge and travel freely through water, learning to travel without swimming aids, development of leg action and basic water skills.

Age: For children aged five and above who are attending primary school.

Maximum class size: Eight


Ozzy Otter (levels 3 and 4)

Ozzy Otter logo Suitable for: For children who can swim unaided

Content: Further skills including jumping into water and submerging, introduction to breathing techniques, retrieving objects from pool floor, breaststroke and sculling.

Age: For children aged five and above who are attending primary school.

Maximum class size: Ten


Dolly Dolphin (levels 5 and 6)

Dolly Dolphin logo Suitable for: For children who don't need swimming aids and can swim unaided for at least ten metres

Content: Further skills including treading water, pushing from the side with the correct technique, developing front crawl, breaststroke and backstroke, surface dives and swimming underwater.

Age: For children aged five and above who are attending primary school.

Maximum class size: 12


Flying Fish (levels 7 and 8)

Flying Fish logo Suitable for: For children who can swim two widths of each of the three main strokes (front crawl, breaststroke, back crawl)

Content: Development towards swimming 25 metres in the three main strokes and 50 metres in a preferred stroke using the correct leg action. Also includes somersault and rotation skills.

Age: For children aged five and above who are attending primary school.

Maximum class size: 12


Sharks (levels 9 to 12)

Suitable for: For children who can swim at least one length of each of the four main strokes

Content: All four strokes are developed into an efficient technique. Also includes starts, turns, stroke drills and preparation for advancement onto swimming clubs.

Age: For children aged five and above who are attending primary school.

Maximum class size: depends on the number of lanes available.
