New Belfast Group
Investing £300 million in our city`s future
This is a very exciting time for Belfast. All around there are signs of confidence and optimism for the future. Belfast is undergoing a massive period of regeneration and organisations across the city are working hard and investing millions of pounds in projects which are changing our city.Projects which are transforming and upgrading the city`s infrastructure include:
- building work, such as the £400 million Victoria Square shopping centre, the new £50 million library at Queen`s University and the £22 million Grove Wellbeing Centre are transforming the skyline of Belfast
- other initiatives such as the Belfast Sewers Project, the Belfast Streets Ahead initiative and the M1 motorway and Westlink project.
Aims of the New Belfast Group
The New Belfast Group was formed in 2005 to address these challenges in our city.They aim to:
- make sure that the group works together to minimise disruption during this period of regeneration
- keep the public informed about ongoing work and progress of major projects across the city, and
- help promote Belfast.
Who's in the New Belfast group?
The New Belfast group is a partnership made of members from:- Belfast City Council
- The Department of Social Development (DSD)
- Department of Regional Development: Roads Service - Eastern Division
- Northern Ireland Water
- Queen`s University Belfast
