Queen`s University Belfast
Queen`s University Belfast has started a £250 million building programme at several of its sites in Belfast.
The Sir Anthony O`Reilly Library
The Sir Anthony O`Reilly Library project is central to the university`s vision to be an international, research-driven centre, at the heart of the local community. It is one of the most ambitious building projects in Northern Ireland. It is due for completion in 2009.Features of the new library
- a multi-storey open atrium
- 2,000 reader places
- 1.5 million volumes
- an exhibition space
- a café
- a combined language laboratory
- information points, and
- multi-media resources.
Other building projects at Queen`s
Apart from the library, other major building projects recently completed include:- centre for Cancer Research and Cell Biology
- student guidance centre (providing a single contact point for all student services)
- new maths building
- refurbishment of the Students` Union
- extension to the Physical Education Centre
- redevelopment of the Elms Student Village
- phased upgrading of science and engineering, medical and biomedical research and teaching accommodation.
Sports facilities development
Future plans include the redevelopment of outdoor sports at The Dub, Upper Malone, South Belfast. The university wants to create a welcoming and integrated outdoor sports facility that will benefit both students and the wider community. It will also transform Upper Malone into a great venue for national and international standard competitive sport and for coaching and training, especially in the run up to the London 2012 Olympics and Paralympics Games.Further information:
