Belfast Streets Ahead

It aims to:
In June 2007 Margaret Ritchie, Social Development Minister, announced the start of the Belfast Streets Ahead programme. Work on Phase 1 is due to be completed by March 2010.

Street regeneration

The programme involves regenerating streets, parks and squares, including the street furniture, lighting, signs and landscaping in the following streets and spaces:

Public art

A key part of the programme is investment in new public art which is a good way to create outstanding and memorable public places. A new centre piece for Arthur Square entitled "Spirit of Belfast" has been commissioned.

Partners in this project

This work will be carried out by the Department of Social Development. Our contractor, Farrans (Construction) Ltd, will work with Belfast City Centre Management to minimise inconvenience to traders, shoppers and visitors in the affected streets.
